The waiting game is not a fun one but very much a part of life. We wait to be born. We wait to go to school. We wait to finish school. We wait to get accepted in the college of our dreams. We wait for graduation day. We wait for a good job. We wait for promotion. We wait for the right person to come into our lives. The cycle continues in the lives of our children, loved ones and complete strangers.
Waiting makes us human. What we do while we wait can make us better human beings.
Change is a part of life and many of us are in transition. So, what to do while you wait for your 'future' to come? Romans 12 has great directions:
11"Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
14Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
17Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. 18If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone."
We tend to become hermits when we are seriously working on a future goal. No need to do that in the Kingdom of God. We are all part of the body and we were made to be connected. The best way for that connection to work is to be in fellowship with others. I know there are seasons where the best we can do is seeing people on weekends but we can still serve God by loving others the best we can, whenever we can. Have you heard of a phone before? Just a tip.
We sometimes forget that we need people in order to get to our future goals. Why not share with those who are in need while you wait? It doesn't take money. I know a handful of people who just need companionship. Just 30 minutes will make a whole difference in their days. Keep your eyes and ears open.
If you feel like you are in the Lion's den, bless and do not curse people. Why? You reap what you sow. The higher you go the more reminders we need to associate with those of low position. The Bible had great wisdom for all areas of life.
Think about your work rules, friendship circle rules, etc. The way you behave while waiting for your future should not differ from the Word of God.
