Selah Moment

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

I'm very tired (around 3:30 a.m.), yet, I could not go back to sleep. First of all, my heart was not at peace. Second of all I'm pregnant, so any change my body gets I need to nurture (feed) LB.
I can't go into details of what's going on but I can tell you that most times when I'm in this situation I try to feed my heart with the word. God usually brings a scripture to my mind that brings peace and His will into my life. This morning was no different:
Be still, and know that I am God;
         I will be exalted among the nations,
         I will be exalted in the earth! Psalm 46:10

Psalm 46 is well-known, I bet people like verse 10 better. I like it myself because I understand that God wants me to be still so He can minister to me.
I went ahead and read the whole thing tough. The word 'Selah' is mentioned twice in this passage. The meaning is 'pause, and calmly think of that.' So I read whatever came before Selah and tried to pause and calmly think of that truthful statement. One of the statements was:
The LORD Almighty is with us;
       the God of Jacob is our fortress. Psalm 46:11

I must confess that at first, taking a 'Selah Moment' was weird. What's wrong with me that I can't do something simple as pausing and calmly thinking of a promise of God? The Message translation says:
"Step out of the traffic! Take a long,
      loving look at me, your High God,
      above politics, above everything." Psalm 46:10

I repent for not being willing to step out of the traffic and look up to God above everything that's going on. I commit to take more Selah Moments throughout my day. No class needed. No breathing techniques needed either. No need to convince me that this is something from the ancient East, I'll just do it. I will let go of hindrances and focus on God. I love the way The Message translates Psalm 46:11
"Jacob-wrestling God fights for us,

God-of-Angel-Armies protects us."
I can find total assurance in the God of Jacob and I'm glad He's got my back.

Prayer: As I lay me down to sleep, as I go throughout my day God, I know that You walk with me. When I feel like I'm in a traffic jam You invite me to step out of this craziness and behold your beauty and holiness. It is there that I find peace. Help me to take more Selah Moments throughout this day. In your presence there is fullness of joy and peace. Thank you for clarity, thank you for guidance. In Jesus' name I pray. Let it be so.
