"And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit."
Matthew 27:50 (NKJV)
I love reading the Bible around this time of year. The things that happened the Friday before the resurrection of Jesus were pretty horrific. The good thing is, Jesus knew. He knew He came from the Father and He was going back to the Father.
He chose to go through a horrific Friday to save a sinner like me. I'm amazed.
The way Christians celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus is cultural. Some denominations observe different things and create different ways to remember Jesus' sacrifice. The eternal and enduring part of every celebration is the word of God.
Matthew 27:50 says that Jesus yielded up His spirit. Today, I'm rejoicing because He sacrificed His life for me.
I certainly do not deserve such a great act of love. I am certainly thankful.
I'm not sure if you are going to a church service tonight or not. My family and I are going. This entire week, I kept saying "Lord, help us to remember your sacrifice for us. Help us remember the reason why we celebrate Easter. Lord, help us to remember you."
Today, I want to keep meditating on the significance of Jesus yielding His Spirit. His death and resurrection matter today.
Because of Him, I can be free and redeemed. I have access to God. Because of Him, I can share the good news of His life with others.
How about you? What does Jesus' sacrifice mean to you today?
